We recorded this podcast on a Sunday night, because Fr. Dave needed to get back to Loretto for his TOR chapter meeting, and I was flying to Miami (where I am now) the next AM. Was really glad we had the chance to record this in person. The distance stuff works okay, but it is always more fun (at least for me) when we are in the same room.
Last weekend was a first for me: I got to be the “team priest” at a Steubenville Youth Conference. Obviously, I’m not a priest, but that is one of the designated roles of the team. I had pointed out last year that the “team priest” could actually be a “team deacon,” since the responsibilities (homilies at Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, helping with talks and workshops) could also be done by someone who was a deacon. However, I did have to laugh when my name tag said, “Team Priest, Dcn. Bob Rice.” I’m encouraging them to change it to “Team Clergy” 🙂
It was a beautiful experience to participate in the conference in that capacity. The obvious highlight was doing the Eucharistic procession on Saturday evening. My heart was on fire with joy as I brought Jesus to the teens. I really hope I get to do it again!
Because there isn’t much to talk about in the sporting world, we got to some of the fun questions from our listeners. My favorite was, “what karaoke song would you sing?” and Fr. Dave only remembering at the very end of the podcast (right after the music finished). I won’t give it away, but it might be related to the title of the podcast. (Also, Weird Al fans, I know it should be “kissed his mother” instead of “kissed his parents”. It has bothered me so much I almost went back and edited it. Alas, I am only human.)
Please keep me (I’m hosting another youth conference in Springfield, MO this weekend) and Fr. Dave (who is at the TOR chapter meeting in Loretto) in prayer this week, and know that we are praying for you.
